This module is an introduction to the vast research domain known as Digital Humanities. As a field of research it explores the myriad of issues, challenges, opportunities and benefits associated with ‘the humanities, done digitally’. Digital technology has transformed every aspect of our lives; how we carry out and inform research is just one element of this “digital revolution”. As an umbrella term, Digital Humanities, is applicable and relevant to all fields of humanities research, as such this module will consider a broad range of topics, including, but not limited to, texts and textuality, digital media, creating digital archives, crowd sourcing, big data, and data visualisations, the intersections between traditional theoretical approaches in the humanities and the 'methodological turn' of digital humanities, the challenge of long-term digital preservation, data modeling for humanities research, public history/humanities.
