• Describe anabolic and catabolic processes in microbial cells.
• Examine the pathways involved in the biosynthesis of proteins, carbohydrates and nucleic acids.
• Define the advantages associated with genetic manipulation of fungi.
• Describe the processes and bioethical issues affecting the culture of animal cells in vivo.
• Review the different types of plant tissue culture, with particular reference to their hormonal requirements, and explain their application in micropropagation.
• Evaluate procedures for the genetic propagation of plants and assess the progress in their commercial application.
• Undertake self-directed library research and study.

• Forty percent overall with minimum thirty percent in written exam and forty percent in continuous assessment.
