The departmental academic staff set the research topics. Collectively the topics cover a wide range of biological disciplines, and where possible the student will have an element of choice on the subject area. Individual topics will have a narrow enough focus to ensure a survey of the primary literature is appropriate. The student must identify relevant sources of information, assimilate their contents, and use the information to synthesise an informative discussion of the research topic. The student must present their work as a written thesis and as an oral presentation.
NOTE TO VISITING/International students: Module suitable for students visiting for the full academic year only
Third year grades and/or a written statement of interest may be used to allocate a limited number of projects. The Biology department will oversee allocation in week 1. Students may be required to amend module registration after project allocation to ensure sufficient credit in the year.
