	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Explain metal-carbon bonding in organometallic complexes. Construct synthetic protocols for organometallic complexes and explain their reactivity. Apply the Eighteen Electron Rule to organometallic complexes. Discuss the optical and magnetic properties of co-ordination complexes of the transition metals in terms of crystal field theory. Discuss aspects of the physical/spectroscopic and chemical properties of f-Block elements/compounds. Explain or predict aspects of the physical/spectroscopic and chemical properties of f-Block elements/ compounds.

The pass standard is 40%, subject to a minimum mark of 40% in practical class work (satisfactory attendance at practical classes is also a requirement). A capped module mark of 35% is awarded in cases where a student does not pass the continuous assessment component of the module. - CA mark of less than 40% = capped module mark of 35% - Absent from 2 or more labs from one module = capped module mark of 35% - Absent from more than 2 labs in one semester = capped module mark of 35% E �capped� Student did not pass continuous assessment component of module. Students who choose to re-sit the written exam in August cannot improve their module mark, which will remain capped at 35% (35% is within the compensation threshold). F �capped� Student did not pass continuous assessment component of module. Students who choose to re-sit the written exam in August can improve their module mark to a maximum of 35%, ie. the module mark is capped at 35% (35% is within the compensation threshold). Note: Students should familiarise themselves with the Departmental Rules & Regulations outlined in the 3rd year manual.
Penalties: There is no option to repeat the continuous assessment component of the module within the same period of study.
