Chemistry of the f-Block elements and compounds: Material covered includes: Lanthanoids - electronic configuration; oxidation states; M3+, M4+ and M2+ ions; the lanthanoid contraction, coordination and organometallic complexes; UV-vis spectra, luminescent and magnetic properties. Actinoids - electronic configuration; oxidation states; coordination and organometallic complexes; UV-vis spectra and magnetic properties. The ground state term symbol for f-block metal ions. Trends in the elements, ions or compounds of the f-block, and comparisons with the chemical/physical properties of those of the s- and d-blocks.
