This module examines literary texts in their historical contexts. The module discusses the relationship between literature and history and how this can be understood in a variety of ways (through, for example, materialist, gendered, political, philosophical and other critical perspectives). The module concentrates on examples of historical moments when the literary interacts with historical events and phenomenona.
