Students are introduced to the major concepts in finance such as risk/return tradeoffs, the difference between debt and equity forms of finance, the history and evolution of stock and bond markets and modern innovations in finance. Information sources such as stock market and central bank websites will be used and students will learn to download, manipulate and graph financial information. Microsoft Excel will be used throughout. Students will lear to read the financial pages of newspapers and also develop practical skills such as how to set up a repayment schedule for a loan.
