This module analyses a variety of financial crises and highlights their similarities and differences. We examine how crises may spread across different markets and discuss the difference between transmission mechanisms. We discuss the concept of financial market contagion and distinguish it from normal market interdependencies. We assess different models of financial market regulation, setting out the advantages and disadvantages of various approaches.
