• Discuss the role of the poet in nineteenth-century French society.
• Demonstrate awareness of a range of poetic techniques and examine their usage in a selection of poems.
• Analyse a poem in detail, with reference to content, style/technique, structure and tone.

• 12 hours of lectures, supplemented by private study.
