• Recognise and define key terms relating to French politics and society.
• Recognise key aspects of French social and political organisation ('laicité', 'les grandes écoles', 'la sécurité sociale' etc).
• Identify key aspects of French political culture and organisation (e.g. the role of the President, the two-tier election system, different political tendencies).
• Engage in debate on a number of controversial issues pertaining to French history and politics.

• 12 lecture hours, supplemented by private study.

• Module Graded (numeric value) or Ungraded (Pass/Not Passed): Graded
• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Essay or one-hour written examination at the end of the semester.

• Pass standard: 40%
