• Present a structured exposé (orally) on a selected literary passage, paying attention to content, tone and narrative techniques (in the passage).
• Carry out individual research on a topic chosen for an extended essay.
• Analyse the key issues at stake in one's chosen research topic, incorporating both primary and secondary sources into the body of the essay.
• Produce a well-structured, well-researched and well-referenced piece of written work (3,000 words), displaying evidence of personal insight.
• Demonstrate awareness of the core skills required in research.

• 12 tutorial hours and regular individual supervision of long essay by a member of the Department.

• Module Graded (numeric value) or Ungraded (Pass/Not Passed): Graded
• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Continuous Assessment. Long essay 80%, exposé 10%, participation 10%.

• Pass standard: 40%
• Could the result of this module be capped? No
• Penalties: 5% will be deducted for late submission, plus 1% per day late after that.

• Resubmit long essay with penalties; 10 minute expose.

• FR224 or equivalent.
