On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

Discuss the contribution of two selected authors to the canon of French-Canadian literature.

Identify and examine a number of themes that appear to be common to French-Canadian literature.

Demonstrate awareness of two important genres in the history of French-Canadian literature: le roman de la terrre and le roman de la ville.

Compare and contrast a roman de la terre with a roman de la ville in terms of style, character, themes, tone and other factors.

Reflect on how French-Canadian identity has evolved since its foundation.
