What structural and social factors influence the French language as it is spoken and written today? During the first half of the semester, the module will offer an overview of the language’s structures through the study of its phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. During the second half of the semester, students will explore the language in its social context by studying pragmatics and communication, oral versus written forms, multilingualism, and language variation. It will also contribute to the improvement of the students’ French skills by helping them to understand how language works.
