EXPLAINING THE INEXPLICABLE: LITERARY DEPICTIONS OF NATIONAL SOCIALISM
This course will locate German literature in a specific historical context and analyse strategies of representation.
The module is intended as an introduction to engagement with authentic material.

Course texts:
- Ödön von Horváth, "Jugend ohne Gott" (1937)
- Bernhard Schlink, "Der Vorleser" (1995)

Former Beginners should note that English translations of both course texts are available.


**This 5-ECTS credit module may be used as part of the 15-ECTS credits in the study of literature (including drama, poetry, fiction, film studies etc.) required for accreditation by the Teaching Council of Ireland. All applications submitted for Teaching Council accreditation are, however, subject to the Teaching Council’s internal evaluation processes.
