This module is aimed at students who are interested in continuing to develop their German language skills as a follow-on from GN260. It will appeal to all types of students – those who have a genuine interest in deepening their knowledge of the German language and culture as well as those who are motivated to develop German language skills and (inter)cultural competence to enhance their employment prospects on the domestic and international labour markets. German as an elective subject is open to Second Year undergraduate and all postgraduate students. This module aims to continue developing students' confidence and accuracy and to enable them to use the German language in a range of contexts and situations.

This module is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at level A1.2, where the emphasis is on achieving a pre-intermediate level of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). A student achieving an overall mark of 60% or higher in this module will have demonstrated linguistic competence commensurate with CEFR level A1.2.
