	This module introduces students to social geography and cultural geography, two of the most dynamic fields of study within human geography. It focuses on the relationship between space and society, expressed through both the cultural landscape and the emergence of social differences and inequalities. The module also examines key themes such as power, politics and identity, and their theoretical and empirical importance within social and cultural geography.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Demonstrate knowledge of the development of social geography and cultural geography as important approaches within the discipline geography Discuss the importance of the concept of landscape Discuss the nature and form of the relationship between space and society Identify key themes in social and cultural geography, and analyze their explanatory power Explain developments in contemporary Ireland using social and cultural geography frameworks

	One hour written examination. Continuous assessment marks are carried forward to the Autumn, barring exceptional circumstances. University scheduled written examination (Autumn): 60 minutes
