Module QUATERNARY ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE

Module code: GY315
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Quota: 140
Department: GEOGRAPHY
International: Yes
Coordinator: Dr Stephen McCarron (GEOGRAPHY)
Overview Overview

The module will cover the range of processes operating at geological time scales which have shaped global physical landscapes throughout the ''Quaternary'' sub-era (the last 2.6 million years, but with a focus on the last 25,000 years). Special attention is paid to understanding the development of Ireland’s Quaternary environments. The evidence around us of Quaternary environmental change provides important long-term record of some controls on global climatic development over longer than instrumental time scales, thus providing a context for the examination of modern concerns about accelerated global climate change.
