On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

Describe and discuss the nature and causes of global climatic change particularly during the Quaternary Period.

Demonstrate a critical awareness of palaeoclimate data sources including climatic proxies available from ice- and marine- cores used in the study of Quaternary climate.

Explain the formation of glacial ice masses and describe the structure and movement patterns of a modern ice sheet such as Antarctica or Greenland.

Relate the formation of glacial landforms e.g. moraines, eskers, drumlins, outwash to ice mass structures and processes.

Account for the formation of sediment types (lithofacies) associated with glacial erosion and depositional processes including glaciofluvial sediments and tills.

Apply appropriate Glacial Landsystem models to the classification of glacial landforms and landscapes.
