This course will look at the evolution of the modern Irish landscape: medieval legacies in the natural and cultural landscape; colonialism and the emergence of the modern landscape; settlement impacts of economic and demographic expansion; the estates system and the evolution of landholding; geographies of adminstrative change in the 19th and 20th centuries; the built environment; landscape representations.
