	Overview
	The aim of the course is to provide students with an overview of the political, military and diplomatic history of the Arab-Israeli Conflict. The course will proceed chronologically, from the emergence of Zionism in late-19th-Century Europe and an examination of Palestinian society at the beginning of the 20th Century, to British rule, and to the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and successive conflicts. It considers as well mediation efforts and the various peace processes, finishing with the Second Intifada, the Wall, and the conflicts with Hezbollah and Hamas. The module will also serve as an introduction to historiographical debates over specific issues such as the causes and consequences of the 1948 and 1967 Wars and the failures of the various peace initiatives. In this way students will be exposed to the competing historical narratives that dominate the writing of this conflict�s past.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Upon completing this module students will have a well-grounded understanding of the central questions that underpin the Arab-Israeli conflict; Students will be able to understand the difficulties involved in finding a lasting solution to the conflict; Students will gain an insight into the way in which the region�s history is contested and manipulated in rival narratives; Students will be become familiar with the academic historiography of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Learning Outcomes

	Autumn Supplementals/Resits
	Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes For autumn resit, the module attendance condition still applies. A student must attend a minimum of 50% of the module lectures. If this condition is not met the module result is capped at a maximum of 35%. The essay/project component only may be submitted. There will be no re-submission of other continuous assessment components. Marks received during the semester in respect of in-class tests, presentations etc., will be carried over. Essays/projects for autumn supplemental must be submitted by 1 August and will be capped at 40%. Is Supplemental Continuous Assessment registration permitted?
