This module will focus on resistance to British and French colonialism in the Middle East in the twentieth century. By taking an in-depth look at Egypt, Greater Syria and Algeria the module will cover the following themes: colonial government and bureaucracy, colonial education, mediating elites and colonial citizenship, preparations for self-rule, anti-colonial organisations, armed rebellion and decolonisation.
