This module offers an introduction to key concepts, theories and practices related to international development including reviews of modernisation, neo-marxist, people-centred and post-development theories. It provides an historical overview of development planning and practice – with a special focus on the roles played by NGOs, civil society and the state in development. It situates this exploration of development in the context of globalisation processes and introduces considerations for international development today, e.g., related to sustainable development, gender and rights based approaches to development.
