This module will critically review the role of the media in relation to development discourses and education and advocacy processes. It will examine media representations of development issues, and the relationship between media and development actors especially in fundraising and advocacy campaigns. Recent developments in media technology will be explored in relation to their potential for democractizing information access and offering greater space to development policy advocates. The module will provide a critical review of the use and potential of ICT4D for NGOs and Civil society sectors to promote engagement and action for change amongst their respective constituencies. The module will draw on a series of campaigning and advocacy case-studies to illustrate how campaigns are constructed and the challenges and opportunities offered by ICT4D and the media.
