	Overview
	This introductory module will teach students the basic skills required for the study of law. The course is applied in nature, and will cover topics such as reading cases and statutes, basic writing principles, professionalism and client communication skills, library and internet resources for researching law, methods for citing various legal sources, and exam-taking techniques, all of which are necessary to ensure success in the law program. Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Read and synthesise the rules from cases. Read and interpret a statute. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Use library and internet resources proficiently to locate relevant legal sources when faced with a research project. Cite various legal sources using the OSCOLA Ireland method. Use information technologies proficiently, in particular, the use of email, word processing, spreadsheets, online databases, and the internet.
