This module introduces the student to the theory, nature and scope of administrative law and to the difference between administrative law and constitutional law. The student will study, and gain knowledge on, the principles of judicial review of a public law decision, including the distinction between judicial review and review on appeal and the amenability of a decision maker to judicial review. The student will also acquire knowledge about the grounds for judicial review (illegality, irrationality and procedural impropriety) and the remedies available by way of judicial review. The module will expose the student to the idea of control of the use of discretionary power in public administration and the use of licensing to control economic activity and to the workings tribunals.

The module lecturer has the discretion to change any aspect of this module may change in any given academic year.

You must take LW255 Administrative Law in order to get the exemption for the King’s Inns (Barrister course). You do not need this module for the purposes of the Law Society (Solicitor course).
