On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

Display an in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals of rights-based jurisprudence in the Irish Constitution and an ability to construct or dissect a legal argument as to the existence of such rights and their enforcement.

Comprehend the principles relating to the recognition of constitutional rights, explain their interaction in different circumstances and distinguish the differing types of rights from one another.

Examine the enforceability of a constitutional right in a given factual matrix, discuss the remedies available to a litigant and predict the outcome of a judicial determination of the problem.

Analyse, debate and criticise the law in a particular area of constitutional law and draw conclusions as to its effectiveness and fairness.

Interpret a given factual matrix in light of constitutional law principles, summarise the main legal issues involved and construct an opinion as to the legal position.

Develop the capacity to conduct independent legal research.
