The module provides students with an introduction to international justice systems. It provides a discussion and analysis of various components of the international law which seek to promote justice, including international human rights law, international criminal law and international humanitarian law. It focuses in particular on how international legal frameworks are developed and how they seek to, and succeed or fail to, promote international justice. The lectures will introduce and discuss important legal institutions such as the United Nations, the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court and analyse if, and how, they have promoted justice at the international level. The course will draw on other disciplines such as politics and history to provide a context for the development and the setting of international justice mechanisms.
Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.
