On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

Understand the theoretical ideas and applications of economic analyses to law.

Examine and critique the legal and economic constraints of using economic reasoning to resolve legal problems.

Critically discuss the economic arguments concerning the law of property, contracts, tort, crime and legal procedure.

Deploy economic concepts such as efficiency and rationality in the analysis and evaluation of key legal concepts and doctrines.

Discuss the assumptions, weaknesses and limitations of economic concepts and modelling techniques and their application to law, and use this critical awareness in their evaluation of law, policy and practice.

Understand that law is a social enterprise and of the relevance of economic analysis to law as it is taught in other modules and, more generally, how it is discussed in everyday life.
