• Identify and critically evaluate the economic developments and crises which have created a stimulus to reform of the framework of financial regulation in Ireland.
• Analyse the changing role, competence and powers of the Central Bank of Ireland from its establishment to date, and in particular, the contemporary enhancement of its standard setting and enforcement competence in response to the Irish banking sector crisis.
• Demonstrate an understanding of developments in financial regulation at a European level, and the institutional reforms arising from the establishment of the European System of Financial Supervision (ESFS) and Banking Union.
• Analyse the impact of EU institutional and legislative reform on the Irish framework of regulation and supervision.
• Assess the role of and dynamic between varying normative frameworks including consumer law and financial services regulation in the provision of retail financial services.
