Module CURRENT ISSUES IN EU LAW

Module code: LW497
Credits: 10
Semester: 1
Department: SCHOOL OF LAW AND CRIMINOLOGY
International: Yes
Overview Overview

This module gives students the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the current constitutional and substantive elements of EU law, building upon and further developing the study of EU law to which students were introduced in second year and in the advanced EU law module in third year. Students should acquire an appreciation for legal issues that are at the cutting-edge of the development of EU law. In doing so, students will acquire a deep understanding of selected aspects of EU primary and secondary law. They will enhance their critical reasoning skills. Students will further learn to work in a legal environment where legal doctrine is not yet settled or currently being unsettled. Some of the topics under discussion will therefore require students to work with primary sources and little academic commentary, but rather force them to think and reason on their own.

It lies in the very nature of a current issues course that the topics covered in any given academic year may vary. Equally, any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.
