This module provides students with knowledge of and insight into the core concepts of criminal responsibility which shape our understanding and application of the criminal law. The module is fundamentally concerned with key theories of criminal responsibility, for example, capacity and character theory, philosophical notions of responsible action, aspects which affect responsibility such as mental condition and age, as well as challenges from other disciplines, particularly within the field of mind sciences, to our understanding of what it is to hold an individual responsible under the remit of the criminal law.

Any aspect of this module may be changed in any given academic year, subject to the discretion of the module lecturer.
