	Overview
	This course is aims to identify and examine the relevant legal principles and practices applicable to international investment, the diverse contexts within which international investment occurs and the assumptions that underpin such legal principles, practices and investment contexts. The course will focus on competing arguments on the role of foreign investment, the definition of foreign investment and investor, the sources of the law and principles applicable to foreign investment, the controls available to capital exporting and importing states, the multinational corporation as the vehicle for investment and the mechanisms for the settlement of foreign investment disputes. This course will be taught only if a sufficient number of students enroll. The module lecturer has discretion to change an aspect of this module in any academic year.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Discuss and evaluate theoretical and practical arguments for foreign investment Outline and examine the sources of the law on foreign investment Identify and evaluate the relevant legal issues and principles applicable to foreign investment Critically examine the roles and their impact of competing actors in foreign investment Understand and explain the distinction and link international investment law has with international trade law Assess the competing interests and regulatory mechanisms available to capital importing and exporting states Understand, explain and examine the legal issues thrown up by foreign investment dispute settlement
