Overview Overview

As a pre-sessional programme, the module presents students with the opportunity to improve their English language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking to a level consistent with IELTS 5.0 (CEFR low B2) to 6.0 (CEFR mid B2) in preparation for taking the official exam. It also aims to provide students with the specific lexis, terminology, academic knowledge and study skills necessary to embark on first-year studies in Economics at Maynooth, enabling them to fully engage with their studies, including required reading, lectures and assessment. Basic research skills through English will also be taught alongside appropriate citation and referencing, enabling students to become more independent in their work and study, and allowing them to credit other authors’ work, where applicable.
