Introduction to forces and particles. Symmetries and conservation laws. Discrete symmetries (CPT). The four forces; classification of leptons, hadrons, mesons, baryons. Strangeness and isospin. The quark model: quark model of mesons and baryons; charm (J/ø-particle); QCD; asymptotic freedom and confinement. Neutrinos and neutrino masses. Electro-weak theory and Higgs bosons. P and CP violation (KL-KS oscillations). Relativistic quantum mechanics: the Dirac equation. Current developments. |
