	Overview
	This module introduces different manufacturing processes and production methods together with their constraints, variations, qualities and costs. Syllabus elements are: Introduction to Manufacturing Processes; Principles of Design for Manufacture and Assembly; Machining (Drilling, Turning, Boring, Milling, Grinding, Sawing, Broaching, Shaping, Planing); Forming of Metals (Rolling, Forging, Extrusion, Drawing, Sheet-Metalworking Processes - Shearing, Bending, Deep-Drawing); Casting; Powder Metallurgy; Polymer Processing (Moulding, Extrusion, Pultrusion); Joining (Brazing, Soldering, Mechanical Fastening, Adhesive Bonding, Welding).

Joining (Brazing, Soldering, Mechanical Fastening, Adhesive Bonding, Welding).

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Describe machining, metal forming and joining and differentiate between the processes that fall into these categories. Explain the casting and powder metallurgy processes and detail how they are used to manufacture metal parts. Discuss some of the methods used to process polymers, specifically looking at moulding. Give the advantages and disadvantages of the processes covered. List some of the materials applicable to these processes and the typical products that can be manufactured using these techniques. Outline the design for manufacture and assembly guidelines of these processes.
