• Demonstrate familiarity with the main representatives of the literary genres of echtrai and immrama.
• Describe the development of the two genres, in respect to their position in Medieval Irish literature and in respect to the history of Early Ireland.
• Describe the development of the concept of liminality and recognise literary reflexes of Van Gennep's tripartite "rites of passage".
• Elucidate the pervasiveness of liminality in relation to otherworld encounters in early Irish literature.
• Identify implicit and encoded messages in narrative elements of various extant echtrae tales and distinguish methodological approaches to mythological analysis.
• Critically and independently analyse sources relating to the concept of liminality in Early Irish literature.
