The distinctive contribution of sociology to understanding and explaining social behaviour. The explanatory power of sociology as against other forms of explanation, drawing on topical issues from Irish society and beyond. The abstract laws and tendencies that structure phenomena in our society, and the power of the ''sociological imagination'' to reveal how individual and society are interlinked.
