This module will provide students with the opportunity to explore the cultural, social, and political significance of crime in Latin American culture. We will explore how writers and filmmakers have utilised the crime genre, but also crime and criminality more generally, as a means of examining complexities associated with phenomena such as political violence, corruption, globalisation, and the legacies of dictatorship. We will also look at the aesthetic, political and commercial considerations that impact the process of adapting crime fiction for the screen.
