This module provides students with an in-depth knowledge of law relevant to the practice of social work, with particular reference to child and family law. It also considers the ways in which social work practice is influenced or determined by (and in turn interacts with) legal contexts. Content of this component includes the following: - The constitutional, institutional and administrative frameworks for the law in Ireland, and the relevant international dimensions (EU, CoE, UN). - Law for social work practice: the legal basis for social work; social workers and legal proceedings. - Law in relation to children and family breakdown; child protection; children in care; adoption; family law; domestic violence. - Applying legal knowledge to practice, e.g. : preparation of court reports
