As a student of Business and Management, you will gain a comprehensive grounding in all areas of management, enterprise, business administration, economics and financial accounting. A key feature of the programme is a themed approach which provides great flexibility for students to follow a stream of study suited to their needs and interests. Management, business law, economics, marketing, operations management, organisational behaviour, leadership, human resources, innovation management – these are just some of the broad range of topics you will study, preparing you for entry into multiple avenues of business.
The broad sweep of this course means you won't be limited by choosing a specialty too early on, while giving you a solid foundation in each of the many areas that make up business life. You will learn to think analytically and to communicate effectively. You will also gain insight into the latest research in various fields of business and acquire skills directly relevant to the practice of management.
On completion of the degree students will have gained an excellent foundation in leadership and the management of organisations, as well as financial analysis and the measurement of performance. These skills provide opportunities for students to take up roles in industry, commercial organisations, banking and financial sectors, professional firms, consultancy organisations, and the public or health care sectors. Applicants are required to have a minimum of six subjects in the Irish Leaving Certificate with two Higher Level papers at C3 and four Ordinary or Higher Level papers at grade D3 |

This course requires 2 additional subjects Mature students - Information: Mature Students must fill out the NUI Maynooth Mature Student Application Form available at http://admissions.nuim.ie/mature_students/mature_form.shtml. It is essential that you also apply to the CAO further details available at www.cao.ie.. Both applications must be received before the 1st of February. Mature applicants that have applied for MH404, MH405, MH407, MH410, MH411 degrees will be called for a multiple choice assessment test. The test requires no particular preparation. As a Single Honours Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) degree, a range of business and management subjects are taken in First, Second and Third Year. There is an option to convert the BBS to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) by extending your degree to four years. On satisfactory completion of Second Year, students have an option to take a one-year paid work placement (arranged by the university placement officer). The placement provides students with experience that can significantly enhance their employment opportunities on completion of the degree. On satisfactory completion of the Third Year work placement, students can apply for conversion to the BBA degree. On successful completion of the course, students are awarded a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business and Management.
All students must pass the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) to proceed to Second Year. The ECDL course is available at the university.

Career options: Career options for graduates of the BBS/BBA in Business and Management are extensive. Graduates are well placed to join service or manufacturing organisations in general management, marketing, sales, operations, accounting, project management, MIS and human resource management functions. Careers in banking and financial institutions are also common options. Careers in consulting, public service and not-for-profit organisations are all potential options.
