Mathematical Physics, or Theoretical Physics, is one of the most exciting and dynamic areas of study. Theoretical physicists study the entire physical world from the microscopic realm to the astrophysical principles of the Universe. The scope of its subject area ranges over topics such as semiconductors, lasers, fractals, chaos, black holes, the Big Bang, the fundamental forces of nature, neural networks and the simulation of physical and biological systems.

As a student, you will learn how to analyse and explain complex issues, to identify problems and work out solutions, and to enter into the unknown with an open mind. Mathematical Physics is also fundamental to all the other science subjects and to engineering.

Applicants are required to have a minimum of six subjects in the Irish Leaving Certificate with two Higher Level papers at C3 and four Ordinary or Higher Level papers at grade D3
