	Overview
	This course introduces students to fixed income securities (bond instruments). It looks at the valuation and properties of fixed income securities as well as the trading strategies pursued by market participants. This course also illustrates some of the uses of Excel for bond markets. Topics covered include bond�s price volatility, bond returns, term structure of interest rates and immunization strategies. This module will use real world financial data from the Bloomberg database accessed via terminals. The students will be introduced to the Bloomberg Database and will be expected to complete the Bloomberg Markets Concepts (BMC) certificate during the course of the module.

	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Critically assess the different measures used to compute the bond�s price volatility; Compute the price of a bond and the bond�s price volatility using different measures; Describe the operation of Bond markets and the practical uses of bonds; Derive the returns from investing in bonds; Construct the term structure of interest; Identify the factors that determine the price of a bond and explain their influence on this price; and Use the Bloomberg database/interface and have completed the Bloomberg Markets Concepts (BMC) certificate.
