FRENCH FOR BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL PURPOSES

	Overview
	Optional intermediate module in French focused on developing students� linguistic and intercultural competencies in the francophone professional world.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Read and extract information from business-related texts, charts and graphs, and summarise that information in oral and written form. Describe working environments, relationships with colleagues, employee and company profiles, business graphics, and business performance using appropriate vocabulary and structures. Communicate effectively with a variety of interlocutors, e.g. colleagues, customers, and executives, and demonstrate appropriate language skills for negotiation and mediation with these interlocutors in written and oral form. Produce some business-related texts, such as formal and informal emails and written reports. Justify a business idea or product in both written and oral form. Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a presentation in a coherent and meaningful manner. Demonstrate intercultural awareness and sociolinguistic competencies, as they relate to the business world. Apply appropriate vocabulary and grammar rules to complete quizzes and oral and written assignments, using relevant ITC, when necessary.

Penalties: Late submission of assessed coursework or examination materials will result in a reduction of the original mark by 5 marks per day. Late submission of work owing to medical or other compelling reasons is not penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e., no more than two working days) after the relevant submission deadline and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a medical certificate). Attendance for this module is monitored regularly. If attendance falls below 70% of session hours, the mark will be capped at 35% for this module. Absence owing to medical or other compelling reasons is not penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e., no more than two working days) after the relevant submission deadline and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a medical certificate).
