Climate change is recognised as one of the greatest threats facing humanity. This module aims to critically evaluate the legal frameworks governing climate change mitigation and adaptation at the international, European and domestic levels. Whilst the focus of the module will on the legal dimensions of climate change, the complex and multifaceted nature of the climate crisis means that the pedagogical approach will be interdisciplinary. The module will typically engage with the international climate change regime, EU climate law and the national legislative response. The module will also consider recent developments in the field such as the shift towards justice and human-rights based approaches to climate change, climate change litigation, energy law and just transition, supply-side climate change solutions like fossil fuel non-proliferation, the regulation of geo-engineering, and climate change activism at the edge of the law.
