Module code: MLEAP11
Credits: n/a
Semester: S
Department: SCHOOL OF MODERN LANGUAGES
International: Yes
Coordinator: Mark Hennessy (SCHOOL OF MODERN LANGUAGES)
Overview Overview

As a pre-sessional programme, the MLEAP11 module presents students with the opportunity to improve their English language skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking to a level consistent with IELTS 6.0 for undergraduates (CEFR mid B2) and 6.5 for postgraduates (CEFR high B2). In addition, MLEAP11 prepares the students for the challenges of effective essay writing in higher education, and the taking of an IELTS-type exam in order to gain entry to their offered degree programmes at Maynooth.*
The module also aims to provide students with the study skills necessary to embark on their offered degree programmes at Maynooth, so enabling them to demonstrate appropriate graduate attributes, and to fully engage with their studies, including required reading, lectures and assessment. Basic research skills through English will also be taught alongside appropriate citation and referencing, enabling students to become more independent in their work and study, and allowing them to credit other authors’ work, where applicable.

Course administrators: the Head of the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Prof. Arnd Witte and Department of German Executive Assistant Ms Fiona Cummins.

*MU degree offers are made on the condition that undergraduate and postgraduate students will have attained an overall IELTS score band of 6.0 and 6.5 respectively, in order to be admitted to their offered programmes of study.
