Module code: PH352
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: PHILOSOPHY
International: Yes
Overview Overview

This module introduces students to different positions of life philosophy with a focus on the 19th and early 20th century. Interpreting life philosophy in a wider sense, we will 1) discuss some idea of the precursors (such as, e.g., Nietzsche), 2) the main positions as emerging in the early 20th century in both the German Lebensphilosophie and vitalism (such as, e.g. Dilthey, Bergson, anhd Simmel) and 3) positions in the wider context of life philosophy (such as, e.g., James). It will ge shown, that next to the importance of life as an independent principle and main focus of philosophy, the emerging key problem of life philosophy are the roles and importance of concepts of intuitive knowledge, creativity, and becoming.
