This course develops your skills in research methods moving from understanding the major concepts and research techniques employed in research design to formulating a research project as part of a team, and understanding what methods might best be used in context of different research questions. This course explores how to carry out three primary research methods: online, visual and archival texts and documents which are often used within historical, comparative and ethnographic research methodologies; the techniques of survey research methods and the applied assessment and analysis of quantitative data: fieldwork techniques in qualitative research, a key research methods in sociology, the principles and practice of fieldwork through hands-on learning as students design and carry out a piece of fieldwork research together with a group of other students.
