Statistics is a mathematical science dealing with the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data. It has also been defined as the gathering of data for the purpose of making decisions in the presence of uncertainty. Statistics is important in virtually all areas of science, technology, and research, and is a useful tool in the world of business and finance.

The Double Honours degree in Pure Mathematics/Applied Mathematics and Statistics focuses on theoretical work, backed up with a thorough training in practical computer-based statistical techniques. The other option – a Double honours degree in Statistics and another subject – is more applied in nature, and aimed at students who want to combine a Science subject with a solid understanding of modern statistical methods.

Under both options you will gain a grounding in current statistical methodologies and measurements, acquiring strong numeracy and analytical skills. You will also learn to present and communicate data coherently.

Applicants are required to have a minimum of six subjects in the Irish Leaving Certificate with two Higher Level papers at C3 and four Ordinary or Higher Level papers at grade D3
